Renault Group is using a unique approach to unveil its upcoming hot hatch, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E. The company’s documentary series Anatomy of a Comeback premiered on Prime Video last week, showing an insider’s view into how the French marque – which was on the verge of collapse in the early 2020s – navigated the crisis and launched its unique “Renaulution” business plan. In a world first, the documentary also reveals the much-anticipated return of the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, a modern electric interpretation of the legendary 1980s rally icon.
The Renault 5 Turbo 3E was first previewed as a show car at the 2022 Paris Motor Show. Now, the documentary takes viewers behind the scenes with Renault CEO Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault brand Fabrice Cambolive, and VP of Design Gilles Vidal as they visit the Design Department to reveal the production-ready model. The episode ends with a surprise Easter egg, confirming the car’s upcoming production.
A nod to its predecessor, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E combines retro styling with cutting-edge performance. With a striking livery that recalls the iconic rally cars of the 1980s, the electric hot hatch features a lightweight carbon superstructure and rear-wheel drive. The two electric motors powering the rear wheels will deliver more than 500 horsepower, propelling the car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. This level of acceleration is on par with supercars, offering an exhilarating driving experience.
The Renault 5 Turbo 3E embodies the brand’s blend of exuberance, sporting credentials, and innovation. It is part of Renault’s broader commitment to reimagine its iconic models for a new, electrified future. While details on the car’s full performance capabilities are still under wraps, the series promises more exclusive insights as the 5 Turbo 3E is set for a 2025 debut with additional activations.
Anatomy of a Comeback reveals not only the story of Renault’s revival but also its bold vision for the future, with the 5 Turbo 3E poised to become a true legend of the electric age.
