Subaru’s first global battery electric vehicle, the Solterra, which is an SUV has been revealed.
The vehicle has been jointly-developed by Toyota and Subaru, which entered into a new business and capital alliance in September 2019. They brought together technologies and expertise to create the vehicle, with engineers of both companies developing it together.
Two different models will be available – a FWD and AWD version. The FWD version has a single 150kW e-motor at the front, while the AWD features two 80kW e-motors placed on the front and rear axles. Both have a 71kWh battery and 150kW DC charging.
The Solterra is built on the new e-Subaru Global Platform, which has been jointly developed with Toyota Motor Corporation as a BEV-dedicated platform.
The battery packs are placed under the floor and by utilizing that battery as a part of the structure, it offers a low center of gravity and adds to the car’s body strength and rigidity.
The launch of the Solterra will start by the middle of 2022 in Japan, the United States, Canada, Europe and China.
