The first road-going verification prototype Polestar 1 vehicles have gone into production in Sweden. Produced for a number of assessments, including crash testing, weather testing and on-road assessment, the verification prototypes will form the first fleet of Polestar 1 vehicles on the road.
Construction of the vehicles will take place in a specialized prototype production facility in Gothenburg, and will be mostly performed by hand. The prototypes will act as the first testing phase for the production series Polestar 1, which will be built at the new Polestar Production Centre in Chengdu, China.
The carbon-fiber body of the car required development of new specialized production equipment and construction techniques that will be transferred to the factory for the production run.
“The assembly of the [verification prototype] cars means that the Polestar 1 has taken its next step toward production,” said Thomas Ingenlath, chief executive officer of Polestar.
“This first batch of 34 cars will enable our engineers to tune the finer details of the car, ensuring that the Polestar 1 is perfect when we start to produce customer cars in the middle of next year.”
