Volkswagen and Zipcar have extended their partnership in a move that will see 325 e-Golfs added to the latter’s vehicle fleet in the UK capital. Having previously worked with Volkswagen to offer the Golf GTE and ICE Polo, the move sees Zipcar add the OEM’s zero-emission version of the Golf to its product portfolio.
Updated in 2017, the e-Golf has an NEDC range of 186 miles, which VW equates with a real-world range of 124 miles. Power on the updated e-Golf has been increased to 100kW, and torque has risen to 290Nm. The vehicle features a new 35.8kWh Li-ion battery.
“This is an exciting step for Volkswagen,” said Alison Jones, director of Volkswagen UK. “Thousands of Zipcar members will experience electric driving, perhaps for the first time, and we know they will love the functionality and ease of use that the all-electric e-Golf provides.”
“We have always wanted to use the cleanest possible vehicles, which is why we’re incredibly proud and excited to team up with Volkswagen for this zero-emissions initiative,” added Jonathan Hampson, general manager for Zipcar UK.
“It marks another step toward our vision for a greener London where carsharers outnumber car owners, making our amazing city an even better place to live for all.”
