Hyundai has introduced the Ioniq 9, a three-row all-electric SUV designed to accommodate up to seven passengers and positioned as a versatile family vehicle. Unveiled at the iconic Goldstein House in Los Angeles, the SUV represents Hyundai’s continued expansion of its electric vehicle lineup.
“Ioniq 9 embodies Hyundai Motor’s unwavering commitment and confidence in electrification,” said Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company. Built on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the vehicle offers substantial interior space and advanced technological features.
The SUV will be available in multiple configurations, including Long-Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD), Long-Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD), and Performance AWD models. Its 110.3 kWh battery system delivers an estimated 620 km range under WLTP testing, with energy consumption targeted at 194 Wh/km for the Long-Range RWD model.
Performance specifications vary across models. The Performance AWD variant can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, while the Long-Range AWD model requires 6.7 seconds and the RWD version 9.4 seconds. The vehicle features advanced technologies including a column-type shift-by-wire system, Chassis Domain Control Unit, and AI-driven Terrain Traction Control System.
Towing capabilities differ by market, with European models capable of pulling up to 2,500 kg and North American versions rated for 5,000 pounds. The SUV incorporates noise-reduction technologies, including sound-absorbing tires and an Active Noise Control-Road system to minimize road noise. The vehicle’s suspension system includes MacPherson multi-link and self-leveling suspension dampers for improved comfort.
Hyundai plans a phased global launch, with sales beginning in South Korea and the United States in the first half of 2025, followed by European and other international markets. The I Ioniq 9 continues Hyundai’s strategy of expanding its electric vehicle portfolio, with the company targeting 23 EV models by 2030.
“Ioniq 9 is designed to meet the needs of consumers who are hyper-connected but also value space, privacy and relaxation,” the company stated, positioning the vehicle as a versatile solution for modern families.
The SUV builds on the success of previous Ioniq models, with the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 having won multiple World Car of the Year Awards in 2022 and 2023. The Ioniq 9 represents Hyundai’s continued commitment to electrification and innovation in the automotive market.
Detailed specifications will be released closer to market launch, with the vehicle expected to offer a comprehensive suite of standard equipment and optional technological upgrades.
