Aptera Motors unveiled its production-ready solar electric vehicle at CES 2025, marking the company’s transition from prototype development to manufacturing validation. The vehicle features an integrated solar array that enables up to 40 miles of daily driving powered solely by sunlight.
The California-based manufacturer showcased its complete solar array system at the Las Vegas Convention Center, incorporating four panels positioned across the hood, dash, roof, and hatch. The vehicle’s body structure utilizes carbon fiber sheet molding compound, which the company says reduces parts count to less than one-tenth of traditional vehicles.
“Today marks a pivotal moment not only for Aptera but for the future of sustainable transportation,” said Chris Anthony, Co-CEO of Aptera Motors. “This vehicle embodies years of innovation and relentless pursuit of energy-efficient mobility.”
The vehicle specifications include a charging time of under one hour for up to 400 miles of range. In sunny climates, the company projects drivers could achieve over 10,000 miles annually through solar power alone, significantly reducing dependence on grid charging.Aptera has secured nearly 50,000 reservations, representing potential revenue exceeding $1.7 billion. The company has raised $135 million through equity crowdfunding to support its progression toward series production.
The manufacturer is conducting demonstrations at CES from its Central Plaza booth (CP-517), where visitors can examine the production-intent vehicle’s interior and exterior, along with an exploded chassis and body structure display. Media representatives are being offered ride-along demonstrations and executive interviews.
This debut represents the first solar-powered EV designed to eliminate regular charging requirements for typical daily driving needs, according to the company. The lightweight design emphasizes energy efficiency and self-sufficiency, distinguishing it from conventional electric vehicles that rely primarily on grid power.
