Bentley has announced the launch of its fourth-generation Continental GT Speed, featuring a groundbreaking Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain. The new model, set to make its US debut at Monterey Car Week, combines a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with a powerful electric motor and a 25.9 kWh battery.
This hybrid system marks a significant step forward in Bentley’s electrification strategy, allowing the luxury grand tourer to travel up to 50 miles on electric power alone based on the EU drive cycle. The combined output of the hybrid powertrain delivers an impressive 782 PS (771 bhp) and 1,000 Nm (738 lb.ft) of torque.
The integration of electric power not only boosts performance but also significantly reduces emissions. Bentley reports that the new Continental GT Speed produces only 29 g/km of CO2, a notable achievement for a high-performance luxury vehicle.
The electric motor contributes to the car’s impressive acceleration, enabling it to reach 60 mph from a standstill in just 3.1 seconds. Despite its focus on performance, the hybrid system also extends the total driving range to over 500 miles.
Bentley’s commitment to electrification is part of its broader environmental initiatives. The company’s Friday night dinner at Monterey Car Week will be sponsored by the Bentley Environmental Foundation, highlighting the automaker’s focus on sustainability.
The new Continental GT Speed represents a balance between Bentley’s traditional craftsmanship and modern technology. It features a redesigned exterior and interior, incorporating elements from the company’s coachbuilt models like the Bacalar and Batur.
Production of the new Continental GT Speed is scheduled to begin in late Q3, with deliveries starting in Q4. The model will be available in both coupe and convertible variants, all hand-crafted at Bentley’s factory in Crewe, England.
