Daimler and BYD have launched a new Denza electric vehicle for the Chinese market. The joint venture between the two companies – Shenzhen Denza New Energy Automotive Co. – has unveiled the new model, the Denza 500. Engineered and produced in China for the national market, the vehicle features a refreshed exterior design and extended electric range of approximately 500km.
The Denza design benefits from Daimler’s vehicle architecture expertise and BYD’s advances in battery technology. Upgraded connectivity features include charging solutions and the Denza smartphone app which (along with a WeChat account or car navigation system) provides the locations of more than 112,000 charging locations across China.
A new battery design, coupled with additional weight reductions, increase the vehicle’s energy efficiency, making the approximately 500km range possible. The Denza 500 was tested in a wide range of climatic conditions, including in temperatures as low as -40°C.
