The symposium’s Introductory Day will be held by the Institute of Automotive Engineering (IAE), Technical University Braunschweig, Germany and Prof Dr Tong Zhang and his team from College of Automotive Studies, Tongji University, China. The IAE under the direction of Prof Dr Ferit Küçükay is the leading institute in Germany for automotive transmission development and research. The IAE holds this Introductory Day regularly also as an integral part of the European CTI Symposium in Berlin. The College of Automotive Studies (CAS) of Tongji University was established in 2002 and approved as a key national new energy vehicle research and development institution. Prof Dr Zhang is the director of the college academic committee and fuel cell vehicle technology institute.

An introductory presentation will include information on: drive characteristics and driving resistances, basics of longitudinal dynamics; background and function of starting devices, transmissions, hybrid and electric drives; design and function of conventional drive concepts, serial, parallel and power-split hybrid drives, electric drives; market and development trends.
