Williams Advanced Engineering and Formula E have revived an old relationship after it has been announced WAE will be the exclusive supplier of its Gen3 battery system for the motor racing series.
Having been the original battery supplier for all teams in the series debut season in 2014, where WAE built and produced a bespoke battery system in just under a year, it continued to power the entire grid for another three seasons until a change of rules saw teams allowed to source alternative suppliers or use their own. Now, WAE has once again been awarded the exclusive contract, and will supply the Gen3 battery system to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
The series has progressed year on year and now has 24 cars competing at the highest level. The Gen3 spec will showcase advanced battery technology through improved energy density, lifecycle, durability, fast charging and power capability.
WAE not only has the experience to support the Championship, but it will also be opening its electric vehicle battery factory, Hyperbat, in the expected near future, where it will be able to develop and manufacturer high-performance battery solutions for specialist applications. Whether the Gen3 battery will be developed there is yet unknown.
