Bosch has launched an electric powertrain that is suitable for a wide range of delivery vehicles – targeted at last-mile deliveries from distribution centers to final recipients. A delivery journey that is typified by stop-and-go in traffic, an electrified powertrain can be a suitable solution given the opportunity for energy recuperation during braking. With most delivery routes tending to cover less than 80km (50 miles), a single-charge of an electrified powertrain should be sufficient to cover a full day of operation. The first vehicle with the new electric powertrain will launch in 2019.
There are two versions of Bosch’s eCityTruck powertrain – one with a powertrain and one without. The two solutions can be scaled for light commercial vehicles up to 7.5 metric tons, which covers a large proportion of the commercial vehicle market.
Bosch has taken multiple components (such as the electric motor and power electronics) and combined them within a single module – economizing on parts, increasing efficiency and lowering cost.
