Kia designers have shared new insights into the Concept EV2’s interior design at Milan Design Week 2025. The B-segment electric SUV, first unveiled at Kia’s EV Day in Barcelona earlier this year, showcases innovative approaches to urban mobility through its cabin design.
The interior draws inspiration from a “picnic in the city” concept, with urban balconies and terraces serving as reference points. This approach aims to create a small yet meaningful space for relaxation within busy urban environments, balancing everyday practicality with leisure opportunities.
Functionality stands at the forefront of the design, with maximized first-row space typical for vehicles of this size. The flat-floor layout allows second-row seats to fold up while front seats can slide back extensively. Side-extendable seat elements further transform the cabin to accommodate various activities.
The Concept EV2 integrates lifestyle-focused features including headrest-integrated speakers, portable door speakers, detachable seat cushions, and pop-up luggage dividers – all designed to enhance leisure activities like urban picnics.
Environmental consciousness plays a significant role in the material selection. The interior incorporates Simplifyber Fybron, a cellulose-based compound made from renewable sources used for the dashboard and door panels. This material reduces reliance on traditional plastics while maintaining durability.
Through collaboration with partner Biomyc, the vehicle features biodegradable mycelium components. Two distinct mycelium materials appear throughout: a mycelium-infused polyurethane with natural particles embedded for texture, and a grown volume material created from mycelium cells binding cellulose from agricultural waste.
Additionally, Kia worked with Bcomp to incorporate AmpliTex, a bio-based composite material made from flax fibers, into structural components like the back seat shell and front seat substructures. This fully recyclable material reduces weight while maintaining strength.
The Concept EV2 represents Kia’s vision for future EV interiors that prioritize user experience while advancing environmental sustainability through innovative materials and thoughtful design solutions. Expected rivals for the EV2 – when it arrives in 2026 – will include the Skoda Epiq, Renault 4 and Volkswagen ID.2, with more likely to follow in the competitive small EV market.
