Chevrolet unveiled its Silverado EV ZR2 off-road race truck concept at the Mint 400 off-road race, where it will also compete in the grueling event as part of the Hall Racing team’s lineup. Chad Hall, the team’s driver, will steer the all-electric race truck in the Open Production EV class. The Silverado EV ZR2 joins the team’s existing Silverado ZR2 and Colorado ZR2 race trucks.
“There is no better proving ground to test the limits of our vehicles than competitive racing,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. “The Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept, which uses 98% GM production parts, showcases some of the best of Chevrolet to produce a beyond-capable pickup to tackle a challenging race of the Mint 400’s magnitude.”
The Silverado EV ZR2 race truck follows a similar formula to the Colorado ZR2 and Silverado ZR2. Key features include a lifted front and rear suspension with off-road tuning, Multimatic damper technology, locking differentials, and underbody skid protection. It took only five months of development to bring the truck to life, with the race truck utilizing nearly all GM production parts.
The truck’s performance is driven by prototype Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve dampers, which offer over 13 inches of wheel travel for front and rear wheels. Paired with 37-inch BF Goodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tires and a tri-motor electric propulsion system generating 1,100 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque, the truck showcases serious off-road potential.
Chevrolet engineers will work alongside the Chad Hall Racing team to monitor the Silverado EV ZR2’s performance and durability throughout the race, with insights to be applied to future production vehicles and aftermarket parts. “What we learn from racing is applied to vehicles consumers can buy,” said Chad Hall, owner of Hall Racing. “An off-road race like the Mint 400 is equivalent to a lifetime of vehicle wear and tear.”
Hall Racing, which began competing in a Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 in 2017, has finished 53 out of 54 races entered.
The Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept’s debut comes ahead of the launch of the 2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss this summer. This off-road variant of the Silverado EV will feature a factory-installed lift, 35-inch all-terrain tires, and new Terrain Mode to enhance maneuverability.
