Daimler has announced that Mercedes-Benz Vans will add an electric powertrain for the new Sprinter in 2019. The mid-size van, the eSprinter, will replace the eVito, and will feature a range of battery capacities.
The installed specification will include a 55kWh battery, offering a range of approximately 150km – even in low temperatures and under full load. Batteries can be charged in eight hours at a charging column or 7.2kW wallbox (maximum).
A second battery configuration features a 41kWh battery, offering a range of around 115km – this increases the maximum payload of the vehicle. Standard charging will take approximately six hours, though the eSprinter can utilize DC fast charging to provide 80% of range after 45 minutes.
Like the diesel variant of the Sprinter, the electric powertrain provides output of 84kW and torque of 300Nm.
The electric van architecture utilizes modular components developed by Daimler’s passenger vehicle electrification programs – part of the OEM’s future strategy which will see €500m (US$618m) invested in integration of connectivity solutions into vans and other areas by 2020.
